Burns Off the Grid: High-Risk Burns in Low-Resource Settings
Tuesday, December 2, 2025
3-4pm CT

Join us for a compelling case-based session exploring the management of high-risk burns in remote and resource-limited environments. Using a real-world scenario involving lithium-ion battery burns sustained during backcountry skiing, this presentation highlights the challenges faced by first responders providing on-site care and enroute management in rural settings.

Attendees will gain insight into:

  • Initial assessment and stabilization of high-risk burns when resources are limited.

  • Practical strategies for managing lithium-ion battery burns in austere environments.
  • Coordination and decision-making during transport to higher-level care facilities.

  • The receiving hospital’s perspective on preparation, triage, and definitive treatment.

This session is designed for emergency medical providers, wilderness medicine practitioners, and clinicians interested in understanding the continuum of care for severe burns outside conventional hospital settings.
